The Drugs and Developemt Youth Forum delegates came up with the following ideas:


Target

Everyone should undergo a drug education training: teachers, pupils, general staff, senior staff
Younger age
Anyone and everyone using the school
Drugs Education should start at P7 and should be conducted continuously

Counselling

Counselling should be made it available to everyone in school
It should have a private and confidential character
Every student should have an access to a counsellor if the need it

Harmful affects

Bring in ex-addicts
Bring in affected families
Show disturbing pictures
Apply shock tactics
Use drama and arts activities
Organise inclusive events
More school assemblies devoted to drugs education should be organised
Pupils' suggestions towards school policy on drugs should be taken on board
Real life horror stories

Effective drug education

Show pictures of the effects
Drug addicts should give talks
School Councils should be involved in making the final decision
More space in the timetable for drug & alcohol education
Posters campaign
PSHE activities
No expulsion but disciplinary action
Carry out surveys in schools
External educators and agencies should be more involved in drug & alcohol education
Life skills should be a strong element of drug & alcohol education
The drug chain process should be a strong part of drug education
Organise more activities with regard to the peer pressure
