OBJECTIVES
The purpose of the First Sitting of the Youth Forum is to introduce the students to the ethos of the Senior D&AYF, to harm reduction and other drugs/alcohol related issues. CEWC NI and Lisburn YMCA will also confront students' perceptions/myths on drugs and reinforce their knowledge on drugs & alcohol and health issues.

The students from ten different schools will have an opportunity to get to know each other through a series of interesting drama activities - icebreakers.

They will have a chance to learn about the format of the Youth Forum.

Their perceptions and myths on drugs/alcohol will be confronted and challenged through a range of interactive workshops and a plenary line debate.

Students' attitude towards drugs will be explored

Students' knowledge on drugs & alcohol and health related issues will be consolidated and reinforced.

The delegates will be presented with some knowledge on the harm reduction. This element will be then consolidated and reinforced through an interactive quiz and workshop activity 'Heroin Chain'.

The skills promoted during this session will include effective communication, working with others, problem solving and ICT.

All resources required for the first meeting involving knowledge and skills will be provided during this session or prior to it through the drugs and alcohol content of the CEWC NI website (www.cewcni.org.uk).
This initiative strongly supports community relations, drugs prevention and empathic skills.

09.30 am Registration (to the tune of 'The Perfect Day')
10.00 am Introduction
Talk: The Ethos of D&AYF - presentation
Resource: Powerpoint presentation.
Skills: Receptive Skill (listening).
Aims: Presenting some details on Senior D&AYF, how it functions and what it involves. Addressing latest development and tendencies in relation to drugs & alcohol situation.
Activity I: Ice Breaker (in groups with adult facilitators)
Resource: Drama and Informal Quiz dealing with students' perceptions about drugs
Skills/Aims: cross-community, cross-academic and social interaction.
11.10 - 11.25 Break
Talk on Drugs/Alcohol & Health
Resource: Powerpoint presentation.
Skills: Receptive skills.
Aims: Informing the students about harmful effects of drugs & alcohol.
Activity II: Reinforcement on Drugs Knowledge (with Facilitators)
Resource: A grid and a leaflet.
Skills: effective communication, working together, problem solving.
Aims: The students are given a grid on drugs related issues, which they, among themselves, have to fill in (in pairs then in the whole workshop group).
Activity III: Attitudes towards drugs related issues -First Line Debate
Resource: A range of various drugs/alcohol related statements.
Skills: working together, problem solving, negotiating, public speaking.
Aims: All students line up in the middle of the hall. Those who agree with a statement go to the right and those who disagree to the left. The students then are given an opportunity to voice their opinions and convince their peers to swap the sites. The students' attitude towards drugs will be tested in this way. This exercise involves making informed decision.

Aims: Informing the students about harm reduction and 'heroin chain'
Activity IV: 'Heroin Chain' (with adult Facilitators)
Resource: Text and a grid.
Skills: communication, negotiating, reaching consensus, giving a feedback.
Aims: Consolidation of the knowledge on 'heroin chain' and harm reduction. The students are given a grid on 'heroin chain', which they, among themselves, have to fill in (in pairs then in the whole workshop group) working out how to reduce harm at certain stages of heroin chain.

Skills: Receptive Skill (Listening).
Aims: Informing the students about the use of the drugs and alcohol content of the CEWCNI website and other relevant websites for the purposes of the next sitting.

Internet Exploring, Researching the 'Alcohol Chain'

Aims: The delegates will have an opportunity to surf through a range of relevant websites to chose and to explore a role from the 'alcohol chain' (from alcohol producer to alcohol user), which they want to play next time when they meet.
