GENERAL OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT

Senior MUNGA

The senior Model UN is an inter-school, cross-border, cross-community initiative providing opportunities, both in formal and informal settings, for students (Year 13 and 14) to learn about the acceptance and celebration of diversity and to appreciate the interdependence of developed and developing countries.

Students, in teams of three, represent member countries of the United Nations and take the ambassadorial role of their designated countries. At this simulated Meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the Delegates address global issues from their country's perspective. They debate and discuss these issues, aiming to reach consensus on major decisions.

This active citizenship initiative, offering training and assistance throughout the life of the project, helps to equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to participate in civic life - team-building, decision-making, conflict resolution and effective communication, while encouraging them to appreciate the need for empathy in creating an atmosphere of trust and understanding.
